Why You Should Salute Your Skin as Much as the Sun
How often does this happen? You wake up, brush your teeth with organic toothpaste, style your hair with cruelty-free product, make your adaptogen-loaded smoothie, and head outside to greet the sun. You’re loving on every part of your body—except one very, very important thing.
Your skin counts for 15 percent of your body. It’s your largest organ. And yet it’s the one that is way too-often neglected. We’re too busy to apply sunscreen, or perhaps we don’t think we “need” it. (All you folks out there with natural tans and nary a sunburn, we’re looking at you.) While you may think you can skip the sunscreen, it’s a really bad idea to do so.
One in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. In fact, more people are diagnosed with skin each year in the U.S. than all the other cancers combined. And treating skin cancer can cost a pretty penny—the annual cost of such treatment is estimated at a grand total of $1.8 billion a year. Uh, no thank you.
Be smart about your skin. Use organic, mineral-loaded sunscreen and apply daily. Make it as much of your routine as brushing your teeth. It’s the obvious choice.[embedded content]
